This book consists of two novels, including "The Elegy of Desirelessness" and "The Bumblebee".
"The Elegy of Desirelessness" begins with a newspaper report about the suicide of a 51-year-old housewife. The narrator, "I," immediately feels compelled to write about her own mother's "simple and clear" story. Recollecting this woman's fate, the reader is naturally presented with her trajectory, constrained by social roles and values. Born into a Catholic peasant family, her mother was raised in a moral tradition of desirelessness, order, and endurance. Ultimately, she could not escape the destructive effects of social roles and language on her existence, and suicide became her unavoidable and inevitable fate.
The author uses his ingenious narrative structure and unique narrative style to express the story of his mother's life and death, which contains a thought-provoking desire, a life worth yearning for, and a narrative voice that silently questions social violence.
