=======
"The Golden Age" is Wang Xiaobo's famous work, and it is also his representative work that has been rewritten dozens of times and polished for twenty years. It contains three chapters, "The Golden Age", "At the Age of Thirty" and "Like Water Flowing", which unfold the three different life stages of the protagonist "Wang Er": in his youth, he was full of passion and fought against the absurd times with disdain and escape; at the age of thirty, he tried hard to integrate into the torrent of the times and tried his best to play the role of a good husband, a good teacher and a good citizen; at the age of forty, the past events are vivid in his mind, the sudden death of Mr. He, the unlucky Mr. Li, and the girlfriend who married another man... He realized that everything a person has is just the passing time.
In the author's view, "Wang Er" is just a symbol, and the stories connected by it share a common theme: our lives. This is how we live and exist, so there is no story more precious or worth writing about than this.
"The desire for love and food is part of human nature. If we can't get them, they become obstacles to human nature. In my novels, these obstacles themselves are not the theme. The real theme is reflection on the human condition." - Wang Xiaobo
