About Book
Introduction:
In the 12th century, the Jurchen people, originating in a corner of northeastern China, rose rapidly to power, establishing the Great Jin Dynasty and briefly becoming the dominant power in East Asia. This regime quickly destroyed the Liao Dynasty, subjugating the Western Xia and Goryeo states, and inflicting the "Jingkang Humiliation" on the Northern Song Dynasty. However, beginning with the southward invasion of the Mongol army in 1211, the Jin Dynasty suffered continuous losses of troops and territory over the next two decades, forcing the center of resistance from Zhongdu to Bianjing and then Caizhou, ultimately collapsing under the combined attacks of the Mongol and Southern Song armies.
This book focuses on several key "sieges" during the Mongol-Jin War, reconstructing the military deployments and engagements of both sides during these crucial battles. It also reveals the series of major coups, mutinies, and power transitions within the Jin dynasty. It also showcases the defense strategies employed by the Jin army and civilians during the Mongol siege of Zhongdu, Bianjing, and other cities, as well as their struggles for survival and their psychological state amidst resource shortages and epidemics. The author uses a clear and accessible style to fully depict the Jin dynasty's entire journey, from its organizational resistance and tenacious resistance to the emperor's demise and the fall of the nation. The narrative weaves together the causes of the Jin dynasty's rise and fall.
Faced with external challenges from emerging powers, frequent natural disasters within the country, power struggles within the ruling clique leading to relentless human suffering, and a monarch lacking the strategic and daring to turn the tide—all these factors contributed to the Jin dynasty's increasingly difficult state, ultimately leading to its downfall. The story of the Jin dynasty's fall is deeply tragic, yet its lessons remain a timeless lesson.

Editor's Recommendation:
◎It fully presents the thought-provoking history of the decline of the Jin Dynasty and restores the thrilling city attack and defense battles in detail.
◎Faced with internal and external troubles, what decisions did the rulers of the Jin Dynasty make that caused the country to suddenly fall from the peak of its fortune and quickly perish?
◎How did the outbreak of epidemic in Bianjing in 1232 affect the fate of the Jin Dynasty?
◎Why did the "Jin Jie Hao" (Great Wall), a giant defense line built by the Jin Dynasty at the cost of huge manpower and material resources, fail to resist the Mongol army's advance?
◎Why was the siege of a large city considered a “high-tech” war in ancient times?
◎Why was the Mongolian army, which was known for its cavalry, able to capture a fortified city with high trenches and deep fortifications?
◎The Jin Dynasty ruling group kept moving the capital. Was it a strategic mistake or a correct decision?
For decision makers:
Understand how wrong decisions can lead individuals and organizations into crisis, and think about how to avoid making wrong decisions.
For history fans:
Understand the Jin Dynasty's rapid rise and fall, and gain insight into the rise and fall of many powerful countries in history.
◎For military fans:
From the clash between Mongolian cavalry and Jin Dynasty warriors, you can experience the confrontation of courage, wisdom and skills in the attack and defense of ancient cities.

Experts recommend:
Vivid and authentic, grand yet detailed, this remarkable book, a masterful blend of military, political, and cultural history, not only recreates the wars of the 13th century but also offers a richly layered historical interpretation. Its detailed depictions, supported by historical materials, rival those of a professional treatise, while its focus on the fates of individual historical figures is deeply moving and comparable to that of a literary work. This exceptional work is a rare find, and I highly recommend it.

This book shows the process of a dynasty struggling desperately until its collapse, and also describes the tragic fate of tens of millions of people under the great changes of the times.
—Zhang Fan (Professor of History, Peking University)
This book depicts a war of iron and fire, blood and tears.
—Dang Baohai (Associate Professor, Department of History, Peking University)
This was one of the most brutal battles over cities in human history. The mounted warriors of the north were trampled by the riders of the north, and what had been built with flesh and bricks was shattered by blood and steel. Your victory was their tragedy; the tide of history never changes.
