A collection of short stories, published in 1949, containing seventeen short stories. Aleph (א) is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. In mathematics, it represents infinity and the infinite set. In mysticism, it is understood as a potential energy that transcends the limits of time and space. Borges used fiction to explore his reflections on time, space, the universe, the macrocosm and the microcosm. After the death of the woman I loved, I continued to visit her home every year on her birthday. Her cousin Daneri, who had been working on a long poem titled "The Universe," confided a secret to me: an "Aleph" in a corner of the basement, the source of his poetic talent. I lay quietly on the dark brick floor of the basement, my eyes fixed on the nineteenth step. Finally, I saw a small, shimmering sphere. The scene within it was dazzling, "encompassing the entire universe." That was the Aleph.
