Flowers in the Mirror (illustrated hardcover edition) is one of the "Collection of Chinese Classical Novels (illustrated hardcover editions)." Since its founding, People's Literature Publishing House has been dedicated to compiling and publishing Chinese classical novels. For over half a century, it has published nearly every major work of classical Chinese fiction. These works were compiled by renowned scholars of classical literature, including Nie Gannu, Zhang Youluan, Zhang Youhe, Zhang Huijian, Huang Suqiu, Gu Xuejie, Chen Erdong, Dai Hongsen, Qi Gong, Feng Qiyong, Yuan Shishuo, Zhu Qikai, and Li Boqi. Their meticulous collation, punctuation, and annotation have made these editions classics that have influenced generations of readers. The "Collection of Chinese Classical Novels (Hardcover Illustrated Editions)" series brings together these excellent classics and revises and edits them comprehensively and meticulously in order to make them more perfect. The selected illustrations are paintings or exquisite embroideries by famous artists, such as Sun Wen's "Dream of the Red Chamber", Sun Jifang's "Flowers in the Mirror", Jin Xiezhong's "Romance of the Three Kingdoms", Cheng Shifa's "The Scholars", etc., to enrich readers' reading experience.
"Flowers in the Mirror" is a unique novel from the Qing Dynasty, consisting of 100 chapters. The first half of the book describes the overseas journeys of Tang Ao, Duo Jiugong, and others, including their experiences in the Kingdom of Women, the Kingdom of Gentlemen, and the Kingdom of the Intestineless. The second half recounts the story of Wu Zetian's imperial examination for talented women, and the success of Tang Xiaoshan, the reincarnation of a flower fairy, and the other 100 other talented women, each reincarnated from a different flower fairy, who subsequently achieved success and achieved great success in the court. The book depicts a wide range of social life with rich imagination and humor. It highlights the talent of women and embodies the concept of respecting women's rights. Of particular literary significance is its fantastical approach to revealing the corrupt customs and moral decline of human society, reflecting its reflections on social issues with practical relevance. This reprint, based on the classic annotated edition by Mr. Zhang Youhe, is further enhanced with dozens of exquisite embroidered illustrations. In addition to revised text, this edition also includes 64 elegant and exquisite color illustrations by Sun Jifang of the Qing Dynasty.
