书籍简介
1. This book is adopted as a classic textbook for courses such as American Studies, Chinese Overseas Studies, and Women's Studies in many universities, and is widely cited by academia.
2. Pioneered the "cultural community theory" of immigration, adopted the "new ethnicity" research method, and sought to comprehensively reconstruct the history of "Chinese women in America."
This book aims to comprehensively reconstruct the history of "Chinese women in America" to fill the gaps in American history and women's history research. The author analyzes and generalizes the immigration patterns of Chinese women since the mid-19th century, examines the strategies used by Chinese immigrant women to adapt to their environment, adopt local customs, and struggle for survival, breaking through traditional classification methods and redefining the periodization of Chinese American history.
The book employs a "new ethnicity" research method and cites a large number of original sources, including US immigration archival materials, demographic data, original archival texts and photographs, early Chinese and English newspaper materials, oral interviews, and survey data. The original simplified Chinese edition won the Ford Foundation Publication Award (Chinese American Studies Series, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Press, 1999), and has been adopted as a classic textbook by American Studies, Chinese Overseas Studies, and Women's Studies programs in various Chinese universities, and is also widely cited by academia.
The revised and expanded edition updates relevant terminology, content, original materials, and bibliographical references from the original edition, incorporates the latest research findings by the author and other Chinese American studies scholars since 2000, adds two brand new chapters and three appendices, and includes 20 new photographs. The book collectively features 48 precious historical photographs and 17 infographics.
