Dubliners
James Joyce (1882-1941) was an Irish writer and poet. Born in Dublin on February 2, 1882, he died in Zurich, Switzerland on January 13, 1941. He is considered the pioneer of stream-of-consciousness literature, and his novel Ulysses is a representative work of this genre and one of the greatest novels of the 20th century. He lived a life of wandering, moving between Trieste, Rome, and Paris, mostly teaching English and writing for newspapers. He also suffered from eye problems, which left him almost completely blind in his later years. However, his unwavering commitment to literature and his diligent writing ultimately led him to become a great writer. Dubliners is James Joyce's renowned short story collection, arguably the most celebrated in the Western world of the 20th century. Published in 1914, the story is set in Dublin in the 1920s and 1930s. It captures a cross-section of the lives of the middle and lower classes, a moment and a group of people. Fifteen stories come together like an impressionist painting, with simple brushstrokes and scattered chapters, revealing a desolate world that is distant, cold, and yet exquisite. It is a top-notch product.
