Moments: The Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photographs
Pulitzer Prize for Photojournalism spans 70 years. Nearly 200,000 words reveal the story behind the work. Personal photos have become milestones in history. Stories about photographers and their photos.◎Editor's Recommendation☆Spanning 1942-2015, a collection of Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalists that have witnessed our era. The Pulitzer Prize for Photojournalism has been awarded annually since 1942. It symbolizes the pinnacle of achievement in photojournalism. Many photojournalists regard winning the Pulitzer Prize for Photojournalism as a lifelong pursuit.
This book selects works that have witnessed our times, including: the Detroit labor conflict, Martin Luther King's widow, the solemn portrait of Coretta, the whole process of the attack on US President Reagan, the watchful vultures and the hungry African girls, the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal, the "9/11" terrorist attacks, the Iraq War, the Ebola epidemic... In addition to the award-winning works over the years, it also briefly introduces the photos of major news events that did not win awards in that year in a parallel way of pictures and texts.

Beyond the visual image, the historical events and the process of photographic production are readily available online through text. However, the stories behind the photographers and their photographs are not as readily available. Hal Beal, the Associated Press's director of photography for 25 years, uses nearly 200,000 words to reveal the full story behind the photographs: the events, the photographers, and the positive and negative impacts of their publication. A life-saving moment, a heartfelt conversation between a police officer and children in Chinatown, a girl burned by napalm... In Hal's writing, these are no longer just silent, unknown faces frozen on paper. Behind each photograph lies a true story, whether heartbreaking, heartwarming, or thought-provoking.
·
Remember history, transcend it, and bear witness to the necessity of photojournalism through the humanity that permeates it. Even if we can't witness history firsthand, we should still remember it as much as possible. Perhaps from it, we can glimpse the spark that keeps humanity alive. It's for this reason that Bernice King, the little girl still in Martin Luther King's arms at his funeral in 1968, stood at the podium 32 years later to protest the deaths of Black people at the hands of police brutality; and that the flames that burned in the streets of Ferguson in 2015 were revived in Minneapolis five years later. The meaning of remembering history lies in transcending it, and this is perhaps the very necessity of photojournalism.

◎Brief Introduction: The Pulitzer Prize is known as the "Nobel Prize of Journalism." Its Photojournalism Award symbolizes the pinnacle of achievement in photojournalism. It has been awarded annually since 1942, except for 1946 when it was not awarded for some reason.
This book selects winners of the Pulitzer Prize for Photographic Photography from 1942 to 2015 (including the Breaking News Photography and Feature Photography awards established in 1968). Beyond the intuitive images, Hal Beer uses beautiful writing and detailed historical materials to reconstruct the historical events and filming process behind the works through text.
In addition, this book also briefly introduces the works or major events that did not win awards that year in a parallel manner of pictures and texts.

◎Celebrity recommendation No matter where I go, these images will be deeply imprinted in my mind.
-- Tom Brokaw, a famous American news anchor. Media recommendations: This book will give you a glimpse into the world from 1943 to 2015. It will inspire you, yet also tear you apart. It will allow you to experience and expand your empathy, and hopefully, will tell you what a photojournalist went through "to get that picture."
