About Book

A collection of art from the Hong Kong anti-extradition movement that I personally witnessed

5 short comics + 32 sharp singles. Hong Kong cartoonist Liu Guangcheng's autobiographical collection uses the brush of will to fight against the history that has been intentionally disappeared.

"The important thing is to survive. But even more important is to live without forgetting your original intention.
"Today, I hope to share our stories through painting, before it's too late, with those who still live in freedom and equality, free from totalitarian oppression. Besides drawing global attention to Hong Kong, I also hope that those accustomed to freedom and equality will take heed and become more actively involved in their respective societies." - Liu Guangcheng

In 2019, the anti-extradition movement broke out in Hong Kong, with one million to two million people taking to the streets.
At first, Liu Guangcheng was a participant in the street march.
After a frontline emergency worker was shot through the right eye by Hong Kong police, his paintbrush became the starting point of his resistance.
Sometimes he doesn't go out on the streets, but buries himself in his desk, painting furiously, and his images are spread internationally through the Internet.
For him, this is not only an artist's mission, but also a citizen's responsibility.
He knew very well that some things, once lost, would never come back.

In May 2020, the Hong Kong version of the National Security Law was passed, and the "One Country, Two Systems" policy was dead in name only.
At a seemingly hopeless moment, Hong Kong people did not back down. On June 4th, tens of thousands of people holding candles poured into Victoria Park.
What are Hong Kong people afraid of? What are they hoping for? Why are they so brave?
Liu Guangcheng used his brush to sketch the era, recording this important page in Hong Kong history.
