Editor's Recommendation:
This is a representative work by Marie-Sé Condé, a major contemporary French-language writer and shortlisted author for the 2023 International Booker Prize, winner of the New Academy Prize, the French Women's Literature Prize, and the French Academy Prize. Set against the backdrop of the 17th-century "Salem Witch Hunts", it describes the strange, mysterious, and intertwined life of Tituba, a minority woman, in which reality and dreams are intertwined.
An outstanding text: serious realism + magnificent imagination, blending reality and fantasy, integrating the painful reality experienced by the protagonist and the sharp satire on the system, rights, society, and human nature into a strange, mysterious, and bizarre imaginary world, with a strong mythological color and symbolic meaning, unique style, and fascinating.
A Woman's Growth and Awakening: The protagonist, Tituba, recounts a life traversed by anxiety, hardship, and violence. From the depths of suffering, she blossoms wildly, a resplendent flower of freedom and desire. Her courage, intelligence, kindness, passion, and determination imbue her with charm and brilliance. Readers will recognize themselves in her uncompromising narrative.
The never-ending issue of witch hunting: In the 17th century, this movement aimed at taming women and controlling their fertility and bodies resulted in countless "Titubas" being labeled "witches" and becoming victims; in the 21st century, violence and persecutions have not stopped. How can we break free from the shackles of the body and gender discipline?
Binding highlights: 110mm*172mm small format, wraparound vertical waist cover, opening up a unique reading experience; the layout is refreshing and pleasing to the eye, and the book is light and portable; the bright and bold pink and blue are full of vitality and tension.

📖
Introduction:
During the witch hunts of the 17th century, countless men and (especially) women were accused of absurd crimes, tortured, and deprived of their lives, becoming victims of the operation of capital and power.
This book uses this as the background of the story, telling the story of Tituba, a black girl, who has experienced displacement and suffering for most of her life, tenaciously pursued love and freedom, and gradually recognized her self-worth and awakened.
Tituba's mother was raped by white men on a slave ship, and she was the "fruit of this hatred and contempt," deprived of her mother's tenderness and care from a young age. Before she was seven, her mother was hanged for resisting the advances of white men on the plantation. Her adoptive father bit his tongue to death on his way to his new owner. Tituba was driven from the plantation and relied on the occasional support of her fellow slaves. Later, she was taken in by a kind old woman and began learning the art of healing and spiritual communication. She healed countless lives with her own hands, yet was unjustly branded a "witch" and imprisoned...
