【Editor's Recommendation】
★A novel by Zhou Kai, a new and emerging writer born in the 1990s, highly recommended by famous writers Su Tong, Ye Zhaoyan, Yu Jian and Han Dong, with a preface written by Ou Ning, the former editor-in-chief of Tiannan.
A late Qing dynasty family, a legend of the Pao brothers, a historical storm, and an elegy for the times. Amidst "a major transformation unseen in three thousand years," the author uses a novelist's style to recreate the lives of people beneath the clouds of history.
★This book is written in the coded Leshan dialect, full of Pao Ge secret language, Jianghu ballads, and folk rituals; it is rich in details and the narrative is dreamlike.
This is a masterpiece by a skilled artisan. The author meticulously researched local chronicles, family records, and historical records of his hometown, recreating the life scenes of the people of Sichuan during the late Qing Dynasty in a three-dimensional way.
★The creatures in the book are as ordinary as moss and live humble lives, but they act with determination.
【Content Introduction】
History is like the wind, and all living beings are like moss. Listen to the river lapping against the shore, and see the impermanence of life.
The author of this book, Zhou Kai, has read numerous books, traveled across mountains and rivers, and with great compassion, he tells contemporary people a family story that has disappeared in the mist of history.
It is said that in Jiading (Leshan) of Sichuan during the late Qing Dynasty, the wealthy businessman Li Pufu was extremely wealthy and had six wives and concubines, but no sons to carry on the family line. He happened to meet a mulberry farmer who had given birth to twins, so he adopted one of them and named him Li Shijing. The other child was later named Liu Taiqing. From then on, the two brothers had very different fates.
The novel, following the divergent fates of two brothers, recreates the local customs and folk charm of Sichuan a century ago. Teahouses, dyeing mills, restaurants, wine shops, brothels... the spirit of the marketplace gushes forth; bandits, compradors, boatmen... the hustle and bustle of the Jianghu. Reading this book is like sitting in a teahouse, listening to a conversation, a myriad of threads, its truth indistinguishable from fiction.
