Crime and Punishment

The novel depicts Raskolnikov, a poor university student driven to insanity by anarchist ideology and driven to the point of mental breakdown, murdering his loan sharking landlady and her innocent sister, a murder that shocked the entire Russian nation. Ultimately, persuaded by a Christian woman named Sonya, he surrenders and is sentenced to exile in Siberia. The novel focuses on the protagonist's psychological transformation before and after the crime, revealing the difficult life of Russia's lower classes.
