About Book
About Book
The Dream of the Red Chamber, one of ancient my country's greatest literary masterpieces, already had commentaries attached to it even when it was still in manuscript form. These comments, now collectively known as "Zhi Ping," were added by Zhi Yanzhai, Ji Hu Suo, and others. Because these commentators were relatives and friends of Cao Xueqin and were familiar with the author's writing process, their comments reveal a wealth of information about the writing background, the relationship between the Cao family, and the plot after the 80th chapter. These comments are invaluable in deepening readers' understanding of the novel's content.
The "Collated Edition of A Dream of Red Mansions by Zhi Ping" is based on the early Zhi Ping editions such as the Jiaxu edition, Jimao edition, and Gengchen edition. It collects some of the Zhi Ping's comments from other Zhi Ping editions such as the Qi Xu edition and the Mengfu edition, and refers to and absorbs the proofreading results of several new annotated editions and Zhi Ping's edited editions.
Chapters 1-8, 13-16, and 25-28 of this book are based on the Jiaxu edition, Chapters 64 and 67 are based on the Liezang edition, and the rest are based on the Gengchen edition. Necessary revisions have been made based on these versions, either by consulting other Zhiben editions or by drawing on the opinions of scholars.
