About Book

Pour une critique de l'économie politique du signe

Baudrillard's 1972 publication of A Critique of the Political Economy of the Sign marked his departure from the post-Marxist context and his move toward anti-Marxism. This book is one of Baudrillard's most significant early works and the first in his "Death Trilogy."
In this regard, he directly followed Debord's theoretical logic, making an even more extreme leap from the "spectacle social existence" that had already been partially transcended by idealism to the empty kingdom of symbols, and completely replaced the premise of social material production structure emphasized by Marx with symbolic production and abstract differential social relations, thus completely bidding farewell to Marx and becoming a direct opponent of historical materialism.
The book is divided into 11 chapters, including the function of symbols and the logic of class, the ideological origins of demand, facing the critique of symbolic political economy, how design and environment or political economy become manipulative forces, etc.
