Suddenly feel unwell.
"Even if my life were to end tomorrow, I still wish to make a promise to the distant future, like an ordinary person."📃📃📃
Philosopher x Anthropologist: 20 letters exchanged between two women about illness, chance, and life.
With immense trust and courage, they etched out the trajectory of their lives together, until the very last moment.
------
⭐To be adapted into a film by director Ryusuke Hamaguchi, starring Tao Okamoto and Virginie Efira as the two protagonists! "It's as if I was drawn to that flame and, before I knew it, had walked a long way."
Director Ryusuke Hamaguchi's words: "The word 'deeply moved' is far from sufficient to describe my feelings when I first read this work, composed of correspondence between two individuals. Faced with this epistolary form, and the clash of two scholars pouring their entire academic careers and souls into it, I had no idea how to respond, yet I felt my heart ignited by the idea of 'wanting to make a film out of it.' It's as if I was drawn to that flame and, before I knew it, had walked a long way."
⭐Two intellectual women pouring their souls into an exchange of letters, etching out the trajectory of their lives together through a linguistic give-and-take.
Beginning with a chance encounter, accumulating through dialogue, arriving at an intertwining of destinies, together etching out the trajectory of life, traversing the entire world. It turns out that two hearts can be so close, and that we can still engage in such sincere dialogue.
⭐Shattering the linguistic traps surrounding illness and the sick, living as a person, not a patient!
Through dialogue, they dismantle myths about medical choices, illness and health, misfortune and bad luck. The vague fear of illness can be transformed through concrete questions, and we can indeed establish a different relationship with illness.
⭐When the vast rupture of illness and death becomes apparent in daily life, how can one accept fate while refusing to live a meaningless life, and instead live with confidence?
"If there truly is such a thing as fate, I believe it's probably this: facing the myriad unknowns in life, while simultaneously resisting becoming a mere conduit, and at the same time, genuinely interacting with those encountered along the way, and together etching out the courage to move forward."
⭐Cover printed in spot color, vivid and soft; included with the book: stickers featuring encouraging quotes with author's hand-drawn illustrations.
【Synopsis】
A philosopher with cancer who has dedicated her life to studying chance, and an anthropologist rooted in the medical field – two intellectual women who met by chance decide to embark on a soul-stirring correspondence centered around "illness." When one's physical condition suddenly deteriorates, their relationship undergoes an unexpected change, and they find themselves "sharing souls and destinies" with each other.
Through dialogue, they are able to experience each other's existence, using language to discover new things – subtly shattering the linguistic traps surrounding illness, and understanding what it truly means to establish relationships with others. Everything that was avoided due to fear, or taken for granted, ignored, and erased, gradually surfaces in their conversations. It turns out that two hearts can be so close, and that we can still engage in such sincere dialogue.
