The Return of the Condor Heroes (4-Volume Set)

In the revised edition of *The Return of the Condor Heroes* (the standard revised edition, not the so-called "third revision" that Jin Yong himself disavowed) in the "Postscript" (written in May 1976), Jin Yong wrote: "The first installment of *The Return of the Condor Heroes* was published on May 20, 1959, in the inaugural issue of *Ming Pao*. This novel was serialized for about three years, meaning it took three years to write. These three years were the most challenging period for *Ming Pao* in its early days." He also stated: "The revised edition of *The Return of the Condor Heroes* did not undergo extensive changes; its primary purpose was to mend some loopholes in the original work." In the early days of *Ming Pao*, Jin Yong relied mainly on *The Return of the Condor Heroes* to attract readers and establish the fledgling newspaper. It's understandable that he dedicated himself to writing it well, especially as his creative abilities were maturing at the time. Therefore, it's comprehensible that "the revised edition did not undergo extensive changes." However, these "loopholes" that the revised edition primarily "mended" also hold considerable research value.
