About Book
About Book
This book is part of the "Complete, Fully Annotated, and Fully Translated Chinese Classics Series." The most commonly used version of the "Book of Rites" is the "Xiao Dai Li Ji," a compilation of 49 chapters by Dai Sheng of the Western Han Dynasty, based on a collection of Han ritual texts from before the Qin and Han dynasties. Following the annotations by Zheng Xuan of the Western Han Dynasty, the "Xiao Dai Li Ji" gradually rose in stature, becoming revered as a "classic" in the Tang Dynasty. After the Song Dynasty, it held the highest position among the "Three Rites" ("Book of Rites," "Yili," and "Zhouli"). The "Book of Rites" focuses on Confucian ritual theory, covering social changes from the Warring States period to the Western Han Dynasty, including the inheritance and evolution of social systems, ritual institutions, and people's concepts. It expounds on the meaning of the "Book of Rites" and expounds on ideas covering social, political, ethical, philosophical, and religious aspects, providing guidance for future generations reading the "Book of Rites."
