About Book
About Book
The novel *Wang Xie* begins in 327 AD, the tenth year of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, when seven-year-old Xie An meets twenty-four-year-old Wang Xizhi. One enjoys wandering through mountains and rivers, while the other is eager to serve the country. Despite their vastly different personalities, they become fast friends across generations. Thereafter, their two families become close and intermarry. It is only after Wang Xizhi’s death that Xie An officially enters public service, striving to support the Jin Dynasty and recover the Central Plains. The Battle of Fei River, which he commanded, stabilized the situation between the North and the South, and the economy and society of Jiangnan saw great development. The latter half of the novel describes how Xie An united with other powerful aristocratic families to prevent Huan Wen from usurping the throne and to maintain the legitimacy of the imperial line. However, the Jin court was weak, and new aristocratic families rose to prominence. In 399 AD, Sun En attacked Kuaiji and massacred the Wang and Xie families. Xie Daoyun, a heroic woman and descendant of the Wang and Xie families, whose husband and son had died, led hundreds of household guards, fought back with her sword, and personally killed enemy soldiers. The entire novel abruptly ends with the demise of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, leaving behind only snow fluttering like willow catkins across the mountains.
