The bloody gift lost in the sea breeze

The seven stories collected in "The Lost Blood Gift in the Sea Breeze" all take place in the harsh landscapes of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. There is a young boy who longs to escape his family's fate of mining coal on the island for generations and travels far away from home when he grows up; there is a middle-aged university teacher who recalls his father who was ambitious but trapped on the island to make a living by fishing; there are members of a large family scattered all over the world who gather at the cape where the grandmother lived as a widow on her 96th birthday, and the dusty past also emerges in people's hearts... These stories outline the close ties and insurmountable gaps within the family, as well as the fragility and tenderness that are inherited when people face their fate.
The seven stories in this book not only embody the rough yet soulful fusion of man and the natural world, but also subtly and restrainedly outline the complex, mysterious, and simple hearts of Cape Breton people. They are soaked in memories and legends, washed by seawater and blood, and in some delicate moments of life, they reach a difficult but joyful understanding of each other.
