Selected Works of Mao Zedong, Vol. 3

The "Selected Works of Mao Zedong (Volume 3)" comprises important works by Comrade Mao Zedong from various periods of the Chinese revolution. Several years ago, various regions published several different versions of the "Selected Works of Mao Zedong," all of which were unreviewed by the author, quite disorganized in their format, contained textual errors, and omitted some important works. The present selection has been compiled according to the various historical periods after the founding of the Communist Party of China and in chronological order of the works. This selection has, as far as possible, collected important works not included in previously printed collections from various regions. All articles in the selection have been reviewed by the author, and in some places, the author made textual revisions, and individual articles also underwent some content additions and modifications.
Below are a few statements regarding publishing matters:
First, the currently published selection is still incomplete. Due to the destruction of revolutionary documents by the Kuomintang reactionaries and the loss of revolutionary documents during long-term warfare, we are currently unable to find all of Comrade Mao Zedong's works, especially the many letters and telegrams written by Comrade Mao Zedong (which constitute a large part of Comrade Mao Zedong's works).
Second, some previously popular works, such as "Rural Surveys," were not included in accordance with the author's wishes; similarly, for "Economic and Financial Problems," only the first chapter (i.e., "Basic Summary of Past Work") was included, also in accordance with the author's wishes.
Third, some annotations have been made in the selection. Some of these are explanatory notes, attached at the bottom of the first page of each article; other parts, some of a political nature and some of a technical nature, are attached at the end of the articles.
Fourth, this selection comes in two bindings. One is a single volume containing works from all periods, and the other is a four-volume set. The first volume of the four-volume set includes works from the First Revolutionary Civil War and the Second Revolutionary Civil War periods; the second and third volumes include works from the Anti-Japanese War period; and the fourth volume includes works from the Third Revolutionary Civil War period.
