Chicken with plums
Editor's Recommendation:☆ A work by Iranian genius artist and Oscar-nominated author Marjane Satrapi, original author of "Persepolis," a 20th-anniversary commemorative edition of the global first release, translated and recommended by renowned translator Ma Ainong!
☆ Winner of the Angoulême International Comics Festival Best Comic Book Award, the film adaptation "Chicken with Plums" was nominated for the Golden Lion Award at the Venice Film Festival, with a Douban rating of 8.0!
☆ Satrapi's first foray into tragic themes, a comic specifically for adults. A musician, in the seven days after deciding to die, recounts various past events and his emotional journey throughout his life. Childhood trauma, the influence of his upbringing, the regrets of love, the dilemmas of marriage, the trivialities of life are gradually revealed through fragmented flashbacks, showcasing the realities adults face. There will always be a scene that strikes at the vulnerability you've overlooked in your ordinary life.
☆ Unique and charming art style, exceptional narrative technique. Satrapi uses a flashback technique, weaving the protagonist's entire life into the memories of his last eight days, with unique black humor and vivid character portrayals. An astonishing narrative structure, a story that makes you laugh and cry.
Synopsis:
Musician Nasser Ali Khan is a master of the Tar, a traditional Iranian instrument. During an argument, his beloved Tar was broken by his wife. He searched painstakingly but could no longer find a Tar he loved. On his quest for a new instrument, he unexpectedly met his childhood sweetheart, only to find she no longer recognized him, leaving him heartbroken. The loss of his beloved and the trivialities of marriage made him feel life was meaningless, so he decided to starve himself to death. In the last eight days of his life, he reviewed his past life as if watching a movie... Throughout this week, family and friends visited him, and each meeting triggered a flashback to a segment of his life. The love shared with siblings in childhood, the love that was missed despite being together in youth, the marriage entered into by most, the life filled with the noise of children... As past events unfold from the perspectives of both parties involved, the details of the story begin to fill in, revealing how many misunderstandings and regrets there can be about life...
