书籍简介

The sheer volume of "Endless Conversation" perhaps confirms the title's "endless" meaning. But what is "conversation"? A need to speak, a compulsion to write. In invisible conversations with Levinas, René Char, Michel Foucault, Georges Bataille, and others, the words of others and fragments inspire an escape to the limit, both an embrace of the unknown outside and an escape from the shadows of metaphysics. Thus, beyond pure literary criticism, Blanchot intends to embrace within this conversation the possibilities of a wide range of thought, including philosophy, ethics, art, and theology. "Conversation" is a work in progress, not yet a book signed and bound by a cover. In these eloquent conversations, the witty exchanges between Blanchot and writers and philosophers provide a crucial key to our understanding of contemporary French thought.
Writing is invisibly summoned to dismantle a discourse within which, no matter how unfortunate we believe ourselves to be, as long as we control it, we remain comfortably situated. From this perspective, writing is the greatest violence, for it transgresses law, all law, even its own.
