Who Am I?: An Autobiography of Emotion, Mind, and Spirit

✨This is the first publication of the complete autobiography of Yi-Fu Tuan, the father of humanistic geography, including unpublished speeches and a 10,000-word translation afterword. This life-writing piece, grappling with both self and others, offers a panoramic view of Tuan's rich and sensitive inner world, a woven tapestry of emotion, thought, and spirit, as he discerns the meaning and value of individual life in ordinary objects and events. Highly recommended by renowned historical geographer Ge Jianxiong and cultural geographer Professor Zhou Shangyi!
From the cosmos to the hearth, this film chronicles Yi-Fu Duan's remarkable, contradictory life. Following in the footsteps of his diplomat father, the young Duan Yi-Fu ascended to the world stage, becoming the center of attention. Yet, as an adult, he retreated to the confines of academia to contemplate life. While most people journey from the self to the world, he journeyed from the world to the self. What does this contradictory life entail? Is it an escape, or a quest for the soul?
❤️Unveiling his hidden emotional life, he confronts the loss of vitality and his longing for intimacy. His immense attachment to his mother and his delicate relationship with his father profoundly shaped Yifu Tuan's personality. Humboldt-like emotions, secretive and profound, leave Yifu, who has chosen to remain single, unmarried, facing the dilemma brought on by this lack of intimacy.
📖Retracing his academic career, this book showcases the ideas of humanistic geography. Linking together ten of Duan's books, including Topophilia, Space and Place, Making Pets, and Escapism, his academic career is his home, and each book is like a room waiting to be explored.
❓ Pointing to the eternal spiritual world, he attempts to answer the ultimate question, "Who am I?" "Self-examination allows me to better understand who I am, while examining the outside world allows me to more clearly understand the nature of external reality." In this back-and-forth examination of self and others, Tuan Yifu, like an ancient Greek, ponders the relationship between the tiny individual and eternal destiny.
🟦Bringing together a vision of innovation, this book is crafted by cutting-edge designer Chen Weishen, breaking with tradition and breaking with convention! The Mondrian-inspired blue and green contrasting cover creates a postmodernist aesthetic, highlighting Yi-Fu Tuan's unique personality. The embossed blue inner cover uses lines and color blocks to depict the longitude and latitude of Yi-Fu Tuan's life.
