About Book
About Book
“We should have met every day
We should have exchanged our favorite books.”
——————————————————
The poetry collection title "We Should Have Met Every Day" comes from Pablo Neruda's poem "It Should Have Been So." Stories of encounters, the delicate beauty of subtle tremors, and everything natural in the essence of life—we should have been immersed in them. We hope this poetry collection embraces every reader, leading them to the collision and reunion of smooth arrival and joyful scenes.
Neruda wrote a vast number of works throughout his life, with approximately 45 poetry collections published during his lifetime and posthumously. This book selects 185 poems from over a dozen of Neruda's original Spanish books, presented in a bilingual Spanish and Chinese translation. It covers works from his first poetry collection published in 1923 to those published posthumously in 1973. Translated anew by the "Writing Poems for You" team, it presents Neruda's works from his youth to his later years.
The poetry collection is divided into six chapters, with about 30 poems per chapter. "The Future is the Universe" weaves Neruda's boundless imagination; most of the poems in "Stolen Branches" are from his early love poems; "Adagio Lamentoso" centrally displays Neruda's self-reflection and melancholic thoughts; "Rain in the Rain" reveals the corners of Neruda's life through the triangular structure of "objects, others, and relationships"; "The Book of Questions," with its brevity and humor, promotes interaction between readers, poets, and the world, unearthing unique perspectives on observing everyday objects; "Great Joy" focuses on depicting "the concrete," concluding the book with blessings of joy. The editor suggests reading one page per day, which would perfectly accompany readers through the new year of 2026.
