About Book

◎ The Complete Poems of Zhang Zao, a Prodigy of Contemporary Chinese Poetry◎ Adds Five Newly Discovered Lost Poems, Re-Dates the Writing Date, and Adds Several Annotations. "Poems of Zhang Zao" has been a popular hit since its 2010 publication. The 2015 edition included six newly discovered lost works by Zhang Zao: "This Moment," "Last Night's Stars," "A Letter to Another Haizi," "Elegy," "Interior or Distant View of a Hair Salon," and "A Thousand Years Later." The 2020 edition adds four previously discovered works: "Chinese Pavilion," "Night," "Coming," and "The Smell of Oranges," as well as "Crane," an unfinished poem written near the poet's death. The collection is organized roughly in chronological order, based on the materials and information available to the editors. Each edition has included revisions to address issues and errors discovered at the time. This edition, in addition to correcting some recently discovered errors and omissions, has supplemented the writing dates of several works based on new information, made minor adjustments to the order of the works, and added five newly discovered poems: "Grandmother's Death," "Umweg," "Latin Black Gate," "Fragments of Beijing," and "In the Mirror." Notes have been added where necessary. This editing and compilation effort was made possible by the trust and support of Sister Li Fan, as well as the generous assistance of numerous teachers, friends, and colleagues. We express our sincere gratitude to them.
