This little book, which burst onto the scene a hundred years ago, is full of earnest nonsense and a strong sense of British humor, making it interesting, captivating, and hilarious.

Based on the flat universe setting, the author unfolds a detailed picture of life in "Flatland." The residents of Flatland, of various shapes, worry about their national society just as we worry about our daily lives. They live in flat houses, identify others through mist and light, and distinguish status by "angles" through touch. Flatland's history also saw major events caused by eliminating class through dyeing, which is no less significant than the history of humans in the spatial world.
The protagonist of the story, a respectable Square, suddenly encounters a "Sphere" from Spaceland who has come to Flatland to preach. He decides to follow this mentor to spread the truth of three-dimensional space to Flatland, but he cannot explain height and "up" (rather than north) in a language that the residents of Flatland can understand. After being treated as a madman, he writes this enduring work, "Flatland."
