"In the Mountains" is Zhang Dinghao's second poetry collection, following "I Love All Incomplete Things." From 2015 to 2022, Zhang Dinghao continued to slowly write poetry in the gaps between his daily lives—seven years, 27 poems. He writes about his love life, his daughter's growth, the poets and philosophers who have nurtured him, and his own experiences of both the abundance and poverty of love. Resembling the lyric composition of Jiang Kui, whom he admires, "slowly harmonizing those impulsive, long and short words into new music," he attempts to create new voices in modern Chinese and to diffuse a rare poetic thought in the contemporary poetry world.
