About Book
About Book
Some darkness needs us to explore.
Truth and falsehood are not key; we must directly confront the fear and cruelty in our hearts.
To comprehend, to believe, a vow is a miracle.
"Seeking Darkness" by Xiong Liang is based on three folk plays about religion and ghosts: "Mulian Rescues His Mother," "Hariti," and "The Black Pot Record." It is composed of these three distinct stories and ink paintings. Yang Linqing's design fully utilizes the physicality of a paper book to create three different scenarios for the three stories, allowing readers to enter three different spatial fields.
1. "Seeking Darkness" is a transformative work by Xiong Liang, a master of original Chinese picture books. Previously, Xiong Liang was nominated for the 2014 Hans Christian Andersen Award for illustration.
2. Seven years in the making, seven years of meticulous refinement. Nearly eighty unrestrained contemporary ink creations of "dark aesthetics" are intertwined with three widely circulated folk drama stories, exploring the deep, dark, and terrifying depths of human nature.
3. Yang Linqing Design Studio spearheaded the experimental design of three ways to read one book, creating different spatial scenarios that bring to life the three "paper plays" within the book.
