Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter
◎ An adventure to return to the essence of language ◎ A person who gradually loses himself in anxiety and loneliness ◎ The original novel of the movie of the same name by Wim Wenders ◎ Wim Wenders' favorite writer; the idol followed by 2004 Nobel Prize winner in Literature Jelinek ◎ This book is a collection of novels, consisting of four novels, including "The Anxiety of the Goalkeeper Facing a Penalty Kick", "Welcome Speech from the Supervisory Board", "The Salesman" and "When Pins Fall on a Farmer's Bowling Lane".In the title story, "The Goalkeeper's Anxiety at a Penalty," the protagonist, Bloch, was a once-famous goalkeeper. One morning, he mysteriously left his job, believing he had been fired. He wandered aimlessly through Vienna. He stumbled upon a murder. He drove to a secluded area near the border and hid there. He saw a wanted poster in the newspaper and finally stopped before a goalkeeper, watching him stand motionless as he saved a penalty kick.
In the novel, Handke uses his obsession with the precision of language and text, and extremely subtle descriptions of external successive events to convey Joseph Bloch's attention deviation phenomenon, giving the novel an atmosphere of detective suspense.
Every sentence is beautiful, and the order of the sentences suddenly becomes striking. That's what I love about this book. How a sentence flows from one place to another. That kind of writing precision is enough to inspire me to make a film.
——Wim Wenders ◎ There is no doubt that Handke has that kind of deliberate toughness and knife-sharp emotions. In his language, he is the best writer.
——John Updike◎ Handke is a living classic. He is more qualified to win the Nobel Prize than I am.
——Elfriede Jelinek ◎ Among contemporary writers on the theme of self-discovery, Handke is the best.
