"Words Hidden in Medicine" is an enlightening book by Xu Wenbing that clarifies the most fundamental terms in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in an accessible way, restoring TCM to its original essence. For thousands of years, we have used the same words, but their meanings may have changed. Many words and phrases have gradually lost their original meanings. In most cases, this doesn't cause problems, but it's different for the ancient discipline of TCM, which requires us to awaken the dormant original meanings of these words. In a modern context, during teaching and treating foreign patients, Dr. Xu Wenbing constantly encounters familiar words that have become unfamiliar. For example, "thought" (思想 - sīxiǎng): what's the difference between "sī" (思) and "xiǎng" (想)? Or "soul" (魂魄 - húnpò): what is "hún" (魂) and what is "pò" (魄)?
