About Book

Camping alone for a month and a half in a glacial zone at -40 degrees Celsius, I captured and wrote about the sound of glaciers tumbling into the sea. I spent long hours braving the cold and rough seas in the bay, paddling a small canoe back and forth, capturing the image of a humpback whale raising its tail fin before diving deep. I traveled alone across the four seasons of Alaska, camping in various locations and documenting the sight of reindeer.
This is the final work of Michio Hoshino, a Japanese National Treasure and polar photographer. After twenty years of sojourning in Alaska, Hoshino spent long periods of time alone in the frigid Far North. Through his lens and a dedicated eye, Hoshino captures the people, animals, and plants that inhabit this harsh natural environment. With his endlessly tender brushstrokes, Hoshino expresses a quiet rethinking of the concepts of a fulfilling life and happiness.
Through the book's genuine, simple and soul-stirring narrative composition, readers can follow Michio Hoshino's footprints deeply imprinted on the earth, follow the photos one by one, extend their vision to the clear and deep land of the Far North, and embark on a spiritual journey back to nature.
Throughout one’s life, one is always on a long journey in pursuit of the light in life.
