The collections of works recorded herein are another path of my life. Unlike the actual path of my life, it has the possibility of being restored, and it is accurate. Although the passage of time may cause its pages to yellow and the writing to fade, each reprinting makes it brand new, regaining a vivid image. This is why I love writing so much.

This book is a collection of novellas written by Yu Hua from 1986 to the present, including 13 pieces such as "I Am Timid as a Mouse," "Summer Typhoon," "The April 3rd Incident," "A Kind of Reality," "Mistake by the River," and "1986." It was personally compiled by Yu Hua. The book is approximately 320,000 words long and is Yu Hua's most complete collection of novellas to date. Yu Hua's novellas are not numerous, but their overall quality is very high. Compared to his longer works, they also have distinct "Yu Hua characteristics," consistent in language, narrative style, and other aspects. They are effortlessly profound, with strong storytelling, and often have unexpected endings. In his novellas, Yu Hua's questioning of fate, exploration of human nature, and reverence for nature reveal his boundless compassion for life and profound contemplation of reality. Within a dark humor, a poignant sense of disillusionment with the world permeates the pages, powerfully impacting the reader.
