Nankichi Niimi is a genius writer in the world of children's literature, one of Japan's three great fairy tale masters, hailed as "Japan's Andersen." He is also commemorated by the "Nankichi Niimi Children's Literature Award," the "Nankichi Niimi Fairy Tale Award," and the "Nankichi Niimi Memorial Museum," praised as "Miyazawa Kenji in the north, Nankichi Niimi in the south." He is on par with famous children's literature writers such as Ogawa Mimei, Miyazawa Kenji, and Tsubota Jōji. Many of his works have been selected for Japanese elementary school language textbooks, Chinese elementary school language textbooks, and are required reading for the new curriculum standards.
