【Features of this book】
"Taiwan's True Love" was Wu Nien-zhen's first television program, rerun for over a decade. In this book, "Taiwan Notes," which details encounters in life, Wu Nien-zhen captures the lives of people in his uniquely unpretentious language. These are the real-life sources for his films and novels, and some chapters from the book have been included in Taiwanese middle school Chinese language textbooks.
Traditional noodle-tea making techniques, face tattooing culture, or the nearly forgotten island of Dongji; the singing grandmas of Hengchun, or the elderly Mixiang who calls back to memory. The struggles and ordinary days of Taiwanese people, their tears, laughter, and unwavering warmth, are all imprinted in this book.
The protagonists of this book are all Taiwan's simplest common people. Their adherence to tradition and understanding of virtue embody Taiwan's most authentic vitality. They also allow mainland Chinese readers to more vividly see lifestyles that are increasingly alienated from our own and understand what makes Taiwan truly so appealing.
