About Book
About Book
In late 2010, Li Juan accompanied the Juma family, a Kazakh herder, deep into the desert winter pastures of the Altay region in northern Xinjiang, spending the entire winter there. During this long, cold world, Li Juan meticulously documented what she saw and heard in this ancient, barren, and vast land: the herders' migrations, grazing, carrying snow, embroidering felts, preparing their homes and cleaning their stables, and making grand and lavish visits to their neighbors... This arduous labor was both a daily joy and a dignity in the vast and lonely life. This was the most turbulent and difficult season in the nomadic life of the Kazakhs, who graze wherever they go. With the passage of time and the increasing material abundance of the outside world, this way of life was on the verge of disappearing. Fortunately, Li Juan's writing vividly captures this scene—the winter of the herders and their livestock, "a sheep's life is a shepherd's year."

Editor's Recommendation:
Deep in the barren and cold desert, Li Juan lived with the Kazakh herdsmen for an entire winter.
In the turbulent life of moving from place to place, winter migration is the most difficult part. Li Juan tells the story of the winter nomadic culture of Kazakh herders with deep affection and restraint, and records the nomadic landscape of the northern Xinjiang in a panoramic manner.
The fate of humanity and the wilderness are inextricably linked, mutually dependent. Amidst the immense cold, Li Juan writes about the tiny sphere of warmth and peace that tiny humans create with their hands—a tiny, yet powerful force against the harsh reality.
-
🌟Over 50 precious photos of winter pastures taken by the author herself, some of which are being published for the first time🌟One of Li Juan's favorite non-fiction novels🌟One of the "Li Juan" series published by Huacheng Publishing House, and together with the "Sheep Road" trilogy, it forms the "Nomadic Culture Quartet" (as Yu Minhong said). Huacheng Li Juan's other works include "Distant Sunflower Field", "My Altay", "Remember One and Forget Three and Two", and "The Train is Leaving Soon"
