Through its focus on people, culture, land, landscape, and production, the book explores the agricultural community of Mui Wo, transcending the framework of "prosperity" versus "decline." Combining local experience with historical insights, the "Good Old Country" research team explores the face of Mui Wo beyond its status as a "tourist destination" and "remote island"—a vibrant "agricultural hub" from the 1950s to the 1980s, and a "diverse offshore island community" that emerged through happenstance after the millennium. The book details how rice, vegetable, and fruit cultivation shaped the island's agricultural and rural cultural landscape, as well as the practical experience of "Hao Lao Tu" in Mui Wo, engaging with community networks and building a network of connected people.
