About Book

Based on Tang Dynasty artifacts found during archaeological excavations, and referencing records from historical documents or unearthed texts, this book reinterprets the true fashion of women's attire during that period from a Tang perspective. The book traces back to the Sui Dynasty and extends to the Five Dynasties period, with four chapters covering brocade and silk (clothing), jewels (accessories), powders and paints (makeup), and updos and buns (hairstyles). Each chapter meticulously examines and describes the names, styles, and combinations of various types of attire at the time. Familiar historical figures such as Yang Guifei, Wu Zetian, Shangguan Wan'er, Nie Yinniang, and Princess Tongchang are selected. Based on existing archaeological findings, appropriate inferences are made to design the probable attire of each character at the time, with verifiable evidence for clothing, accessories, hairstyles, makeup, and scenes.
A one-meter-long scroll is included at the end of the book, detailing the dressing sequence and makeup steps of Tang women, as well as nearly four centuries of fashion changes from the Sui to the Tang Dynasties. A set of costume stickers is also included, designed and produced based on the figurines unearthed from Astana Tang tombs, showcasing classic outfits from the era of Wu Zetian.
