Travels in Central Asia

The author backpacks through the corners of five Central Asian countries: Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. Alexander's army brought walnut wood from Kyrgyzstan back to Europe. In the Yaghnob Valley of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, people still speak Old Yaghnobi, the primary language of the Silk Road, and life follows a different rhythm. The author visits local homes, attends weddings, samples food and tea, and engages in insightful conversations with diverse individuals, offering a comprehensive introduction to the history, culture, and geography of these five Central Asian countries, both present and past, with a special focus on the current living conditions of women in each country.
