A woman's epic

The novel portrays Tian Sufei, a woman caught between the emotional conflict of "I don't love the one who loves me, and the one I love doesn't love me" and the red history of the revolution. The novel begins before the liberation, but the story continues to the end of the Cultural Revolution.

Tian Sufei is a beautiful young woman radiating vibrant energy. She ran away from home at 15 to join the revolution and later became an actress in the art troupe. Her unashamed and playful personality quickly made her the city's most famous actress, even attracting the commander, Du Han, who teamed up with Xiaofei's mother to pursue her. Meanwhile, Xiaofei met Ouyang Yu, a veteran revolutionary from an aristocratic Shanghai family, and was immediately captivated by his demeanor and talent. Ultimately, Tian Sufei, not in love with the commander, but with the gifted man, pursued him and married him.

After marriage, Tian Sufei discovered a significant gap between their knowledge and interests. Ouyang Xu was a suave and charming man, with an overwhelming amount of romantic luck. For Tian Sufei, this man, this marriage, was always stressful and filled with a sense of crisis. At this point, Tian Sufei displayed all the qualities of a typical Chinese woman, both endearing and repulsive: possessing a shamanic intuition, she grasped every clue of an imaginary rival, fiercely battling every real one, sarcastic, suspicious, tearful, and scheming... Yet, none of this prevented her from continuing to love. She mobilized all her wisdom to manage her life through the years of hardship, shielding her lover and family from every adversity.
