About Book

OPUS is a manga series created by the late animation master Satoshi Kon between 1995 and 1996. After 19 chapters, it was discontinued due to the magazine ceasing publication. Afterwards, Kon devoted himself entirely to the world of animation, and OPUS became his last work as a mangaka.
This book tells the story of sci-fi mangaka Rikio Nagai, who, in an attempt to hastily conclude his ongoing manga, plans to have the protagonist and antagonist kill each other. However, the manga's protagonist emerges from the artwork, stealing the crucial final page. At the same time, Rikio Nagai unexpectedly enters the world he created, embarking on an unprecedented adventure with the characters he penned...
After Satoshi Kon's death in 2010, Tokuma Shoten discovered the final chapter of this work among his posthumous manuscripts and published it as a two-volume tankōbon. This book is the complete edition of OPUS, combining the original two volumes into one. It also includes commentary on OPUS personally dictated and compiled by Kon's wife, as well as an interview with Masao Maruyama, the executive producer for all of Kon's directed works. Additionally, it comes with a special bonus booklet containing Kon's handwritten original proposal, offering deeper insight into Kon's story as a creator.
