About Book
Deep in the forests of northern China lives a reindeer-herding tribe known as the Aoluguya Evenki. Reindeer are their companions, helping them transport goods through the forest. Reindeer can also be mischievous, sometimes playing in the forest for too long and not returning to camp when called by their owners. When this happens, the Aoluguya Evenki must venture into the forest to find their reindeer. I once followed an Aoluguya Evenki friend on a search for lost reindeer. We followed the reindeer hoofprints into the forest, camped by a stream, lit a bonfire, and cooked food in birch bark pots... While experiencing the traditional Aoluguya Evenki way of life, I also worried whether we would successfully find the lost reindeer in such a dense forest.
