About Book
Memories are cruel and merciless. A person's life is a journey of constant wandering!
A wanderer from Borneo who drifted to Taipei, and a girl who always roamed the streets of Taipei; how many memories and redemptions will their encounter evoke?!
“It was you, Zhu Ling, who gave me the courage to examine my growth in Nanyang. It was you who helped me face the demons in my heart. It was you who asked me to open my eyes and see what kind of person I really am. These incidents from my childhood in the jungle riverside and the small towns of Nanyang, during my growth, once hurt those I deeply loved, yet I betrayed them as if possessed, against my will. These hurt people, these good women, they are a sacred, dark corner buried deep within my heart, a pain that will forever, forever be hidden from the light of day…”
Li Yongping's semi-autobiographical novel collection, "Rain and Snow Falling: Notes on a Borneo Childhood," uses the author's chance encounter in Taipei with a young girl, Zhu Ling, who later became his literary muse, as a narrative thread. As they wander through Taipei, he reveals his childhood memories in Borneo, not shying away from his past mistakes and scandals. Over the course of a day's stroll, he recounts nine stories. Li Yongping has been creating for decades, and looking back, many prototypes lie in the past. Chi Pang-yuan highly praised the artistic achievements of "Rain and Snow Falling" – "few can match it."
