This is an attempt at an open, comprehensive study that connects art and history. Art history books are voluminous, and museums are even more comprehensive, presenting specific themes, styles, techniques, and schools in an orderly and clear manner. We almost forget that we are dealing with fragments of fragments, and even more so, the various hardships that fragments have experienced. This book attempts to refocus attention on the specific form of fragmentation, which disintegrates the integrity and visual boundaries of the artwork, thereby leading to new issues that we have overlooked. The scope of this book is no longer limited to a specific art form such as painting or sculpture, but covers a wider range of fields such as imagery, cities, architecture, artifacts, literature, epigraphy, and installations, attempting to explore the potential of materiality in art historical research from multiple perspectives such as destruction, fragmentation, regeneration, and aggregation.
