About Book
"Retracing: Searching for Southwest Associated University on Highways, Rivers and Post Roads" is the new work of young author Yang Xiao, and also the first long non-fiction work released by Dandu Publishing. It tells the story of a confused writer who retraces the westward migration route of Southwest Associated University on foot.
In 1938, the Hunan-Guizhou-Yunnan Travel Group trekked across three provinces through the heart of southwest China. In 2018, at a turning point in his life, young author Yang Xiao re-took the 1,600-kilometer route. It was an atypical road trip, often passing trucks. But along the way, the mountain scenery, the shimmering waters, the birdsong, and the human voices gradually overlapped and intertwined with the observations and experiences of the historical exiles who had traveled the same route, even conversing and resonating. A layered, often overlooked "China" slowly emerged.
