About Book
About Book
This is a zine about mobility,
and also a journal of people on the move, living in foreign lands.
It collects stories from everyone in the process of "turning, traversing, and settling," dedicated to everyone who is building a life.
After the call for submissions for the 2025 Enclave annual zine was issued, within one month, we collected stories from 48 readers, about 40 of whom had left their hometowns to live elsewhere. These scattered stories come from Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan, the United States, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Canada, Guangzhou······
Among them, some have lived in their chosen hometowns for twenty to thirty years, while others have moved past the initial freshness and are gradually settling into a stable rhythm. Still others have arrived in new cities less than three years ago and are still figuring out their relationship with the place.
In these stories, the relationship between people and places can be a chili sauce homemade by a mother, a mug with one's name on it
, a bag of fruit brought by the landlord
, or it can be constantly leaving and returning with peace of mind, or completely changing places to start a new life. Moving through these fragmented yet grand daily routines is the process of Re-rooting. Many times, it is not romantic; meticulously controlling every inch might be the only way to find one's anchor in the city.
We have included 15 stories from the questionnaire in this zine, inviting you to get to know Enclave's readers.
The last part of the zine features excerpts from the Enclave guestbooks in various locations. Each Enclave has its own guestbook, where readers who enter the bookstore leave snippets of their thoughts on sofas and windowsills: self-observations, hopes for the present and future, "must-tell" secrets, wishes, words worth repeating, individual and collective memories and life experiences.
