书籍简介

This book is a bilingual anthology of interviews conducted in 1980 between American sinologist Guy Alitto and Liang Shuming, "the last Confucian." In August 1980, Alitto came to Beijing and interviewed Liang Shuming for 14 consecutive days. The content of these interviews was compiled from audio recordings by the "Yidan Xuetang Library" in Beijing and subsequently translated into English by Professor Alitto. This English version, titled *Has Man a Future? – Dialogues with the Last Confucian*, was published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press in 2010. Based on these materials, this book selects interview content that best reflects Mr. Liang Shuming's thoughts and experiences. The original chronologically organized interview text has been restructured thematically and logically into three main sections: Liang Shuming's "Thought," "Historical Experiences and Social Interactions," and "Reflections on Past Figures." The aim is to recreate the steadfastness and commitment of Chinese intellectuals during a time of national turmoil, to evaluate influential figures such as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Chen Duxiu, Li Dazhao, Liang Qichao, Cai Yuanpei, and Tao Xingzhi, and to revisit Liang Shuming's eventful life.
