About Book

The author, Wang Jibing, is a food delivery driver, having logged a cumulative 150,000 kilometers, equivalent to running the length of the Great Wall 15 times. As he navigates the city, he encounters countless others struggling for survival: delivery drivers, migrant workers, cleaners, and babysitters. In their hurried and frantic rush, they lose their very identities: unable to find a place to stay in the city, their hometowns and their parents are steadily receding.
Like a wandering poet from the lower classes of China, Wang Jibing records his own and their plight, as well as the self-respect of a working man. He writes: "I, too, have my own independent country. My boiling blood is my endlessly flowing river, and my craggy bones are my towering mountains."
These poems, scrawled on cigarette boxes and scraps of newspaper in his spare time, are folk songs from the working world, vibrant, raw, and poignant. Some of them were accidentally posted online, sparking unexpected resonance, with individual poems reaching as many as 20 million readers. This book is the first collection of his poems.
