Painting, Color, and Light

*Painting, Color, and Light* is a collection of essays on painting, photography, and music by the famous French poet and critic Yves Bonnefoy. It includes over ten articles, primarily commenting on several important painters, sculptors, photographers, and musicians in the history of Western art. From Mantegna to Elsheimer, from Hopper to Bresson, from Beethoven to Giacometti, the book not only depicts the daily life details of these artists but also delves into their inner worlds, affirming their artistic achievements while clearly revealing their problems and future directions. Bonnefoy reviews the works of painters and poets from the perspective of poetic theory, with sharp insights that hit the mark. While exploring various manifestations of modernity, he also elaborates on his own poetic and aesthetic ideas.
