书籍简介

This is a pandemic diary by a Chinese dentist in Irvine, California, who is enthusiastic about public welfare and passionate about writing. It provides a rare, detailed, comprehensive, and broad-ranging record of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. From March 21, 2020, to November 27, 2022, this diary almost completely covered the entire duration of the pandemic in the U.S. It documented nearly all major public events during the pandemic, from the scramble for and donation of masks, the vaccine controversy, and the "WeChat defense," to the social movements that erupted and swept across the U.S. during the pandemic, such as "Black Lives Matter" and anti-Asian discrimination. It also covered the U.S.-China trade conflict, the divisive 2020 U.S. election, and documented the rich and diverse ecosystem of the local Chinese community during the pandemic: from mutual support and concerted efforts to donate supplies to their localities, to organizing and participating in public activities, launching public welfare initiatives, to spreading rumors and conspiracy theories, and intolerance of dissent, etc. Of course, it also chronicled Yu Chunchu and his small family's journey during the pandemic, from tense responses to cautious travel, and then to calmly enjoying life, as well as his unique insights into various hot topics such as prevention and control methods, race relations, U.S.-China relations, and the issues of unification and independence. At the end of the book, Yu Chunchu's literary works, including poems, novels, essays, and book reviews, created during the pandemic, are also included.

This is a chronicle of the times closely tied to life, and also a frank and sincere record of thoughts. Reading this record will not only take us back to the recently passed pandemic era, bringing back faded memories of the pandemic, but also provide us with an opportunity to re-examine the major historical event of the COVID-19 pandemic.
