Consideration
This book is one of the six volumes in the "Designer Collaboration Series: K Classics." *Contemplation* (*Betrachtung*) is Kafka's first published collection of works. It was published in 1912 by Ernst Rowohlt Verlag in Leipzig, Germany, and includes eighteen of the author's early works. In its review of *Contemplation*, *Berliner Tageblatt* commented: "What Kafka says seems to be the whispered words of unloved, silent people." These 18 works are unconventional and vary in length. From them, we can see that even in his early years, Kafka already had his unique writing style, and we can also perceive his keen insight and unusually delicate inner world.
Editor's Recommendation:
★The "K Classics" series covers all of Kafka's novellas and short stories published during his lifetime. It also includes 6 posthumously unpublished works by Kafka, Kafka's will, and a chronology of Kafka's life.
★8 works are exclusive to Tong Yali's translation, among which 3 short posthumous essays appear for the first time in a simplified Chinese edition.
★Peter Mendelsund, a world-class book cover designer, designed the covers, creating "artworks within books." His designs have been described by *The Wall Street Journal* as "among the most recognizable and iconic designs for contemporary fiction covers." "K Classics" breaks away from the heavy and plain aesthetic of previous Kafka books, offering a cutting-edge feel; abstract graphics and bright colors inject new life into Kafka's works.
★Direct translation from German, by a single translator. Compared to the commonly available compiled and translated collections, the "K Classics" series has a more unified linguistic style; direct translation from German purely restores the essence of Kafka's works.
